There’s no shortage of shopping and fashion news in this town, which makes sense, because there is definitely no shortage of shopping and fashion. Of course, some NYC neighborhoods do a better job than others at bringing it close to home, and your individual tastes may vary (Madison Avenue? Spring Street? Smith? Elizabeth? Bleecker? Bedford? Orchard?), but we get around, us New Yorkers, so no matter where we live, the whole city can be our shopping district. (more…)
Remember how excited you were last July, when NYC ‘s awesome, ambitious bike share program Citi Bike was scheduled to launch? There were going to be bicycles everywhere! More than 400 bike rack stations throughout Manhattan (south of 59th) and parts of Brooklyn! Lots more coming soon! Commuting and getting around town was going to be breeze! And then the whole thing got delayed until August. And then, because of a “software glitch”, they delayed it again, until “Spring 2013″. And THEN there were fears that Sandy swamped all of the Citi Bike equipment while it sat in storage. Was the whole thing just a tease, an elaborate prank pulled by anti-bike evil-doers?!?! (more…)
At first glance (and second… and third…), the newish Los Perros Locos, specializing in Colombian hot dogs, looks like just another drunk-food joint, all you need to know, done. The menu is filled with crazy, kitchen-sink concoctions (several include crushed Fritos; most have at least two kinds of sauce) called things like the “Pablo Escobar” and the “Loisaaaaiiiiida!”. It’s located on Allen Street, just south of Houston, in prime party-zone territory. And the atmosphere fairly screams “Sprang Breaaak”, what with the neon, graffiti-esque mural by UR New York on the wall. If it’s not 1:30 in the morning, or you don’t have the munchies, why bother, right? (more…)
The Invisible Dog Art Center is a true South Brooklyn treasure, a friendly neighborhood art gallery and cultural event space situated right in the sweet spot among the communities of Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, and Downtown Brooklyn. Opened in the fall of 2009 (and thus reversing the usual NYC neighborhood chronology of artists first, families to follow), The Invisible Dog offers studio space to artists at all stages in their careers, and hosts a non-stop terrific series of exhibitions, workshops, parties, dance and music performances, readings and theater, all in a huge converted factory on Bergen Street. If you’re not in the Invisible Dog loop, get on their email list today. (more…)
Today’s question: who has the best smoked-meat in NYC? BrisketTown in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is certainly a contender. (more…)
What is Urban Edge?
Urban Edge is a FREE no fee apartment website. Apartments for rent are listed by the owners, property managers, and leasing agents. Many of them connect their database directly to ours, so you're not looking at listings that have already been rented.
Here's what you WON'T find: bait and switch ads, brokers pretending to be owners, the same apartment posted by 20 different agents, and scam postings. How, you ask, do we do that?
This is how: no one posts an apartment for rent without their account first being approved by our top notch staff, trained to sniff out evil-doers (and brokers charging a fee).
Nabes we cover: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island, Westchester County, Nassau County, Northern New Jersey (Hudson, Bergen and Essex Counties), and Fairfield County in CT.
