There’s no shortage of shopping and fashion news in this town, which makes sense, because there is definitely no shortage of shopping and fashion. Of course, some NYC neighborhoods do a better job than others at bringing it close to home, and your individual tastes may vary (Madison Avenue? Spring Street? Smith? Elizabeth? Bleecker? Bedford? Bikes in the Citi Bike Program, Allowing Anyone to Easily Rent a Bike in NYC

Remember how excited you were last July, when NYC ‘s awesome, ambitious bike share program Citi Bike was scheduled to launch? There were going to be bicycles everywhere! More than 400 bike rack stations throughout Manhattan (south of 59th) and parts of Brooklyn! Lots more coming soon! Commuting and getting around town was going to be breeze! And then the whole thing got delayed until August. And then, because of a “software glitch”, they delayed it again, until “Spring 2013″. And THEN there were fears that Sandy swamped all of the Citi Bike equipment while it sat in storage. Was the whole thing just a tease, an elaborate prank pulled by anti-bike evil-doers?!?!  (more…)

Los Perros Locos in the Lower East Side of Manhattan

At first glance (and second… and third…), the newish Los Perros Locos, specializing in Colombian hot dogs, looks like just another drunk-food joint, all you need to know, done. The menu is filled with crazy, kitchen-sink concoctions (several include crushed Fritos; most have at least two kinds of sauce) called things like the “Pablo Escobar” and the “Loisaaaaiiiiida!”. It’s located on Allen Street, just south of Houston, in prime party-zone territory. And the atmosphere fairly screams “Sprang Breaaak”, what with the neon, graffiti-esque mural by UR New York on the wall. The Invisible Dog Art Center is a true South Brooklyn treasure, a friendly neighborhood art gallery and cultural event space situated right in the sweet spot among the communities of Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, and Downtown Brooklyn.
