A milestone was passed in the second quarter of this year, but it’s not a happy one for New York City rental apartment seekers: the average rent in this great, glorious city of ours surpassed the $3,000-a-month mark. Yup, a month. In fact, it’s $3,017, if you want to be precise. Don’t be dismayed if [...]

The area along Long Island City’s waterfront started to really take off as a residential neighborhood just five or so years ago and, really, it hasn’t slowed down since. A nice mixture of spanking new, amenities-laden development, plus plenty of historic industrial character, plus a burgeoning food and nightlife scene, AND plenty of local cultural [...]
Remember when you could smoke pretty much everywhere in NYC? At the office, in restaurants and bars and movie theaters, on subway platforms, in airports and train stations (you couldn’t even see the constellations on Grand Central’s ceiling, so thick was its coating of the tar!); in my lifetime–and as late as mid-1990s–all of [...]
You hear about new NYC mega-projects all the time these days (or, at least, you hear about them if you obsessively read NYC real estate and urban planning websites). And just walking around town it sometimes feels as if there are huge new towers being built every couple of blocks. Hudson Yards, Atlantic Yards, the [...]
We all have different, if overlapping, criteria for our ideal New York City community, and there are no shortage of good neighborhood portraits out there to help you find you way… including, of course, our own NYC Neighborhood Guide right here on Urban Edge. But recently I’ve seen two new, very specific ways of look [...]
What is Urban Edge?
Urban Edge is a FREE no fee apartment website. Apartments for rent are listed by the owners, property managers, and leasing agents. Many of them connect their database directly to ours, so you're not looking at listings that have already been rented.
Here's what you WON'T find: bait and switch ads, brokers pretending to be owners, the same apartment posted by 20 different agents, and scam postings. How, you ask, do we do that?
This is how: no one posts an apartment for rent without their account first being approved by our top notch staff, trained to sniff out evil-doers (and brokers charging a fee).
Nabes we cover: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island, Westchester County, Nassau County, Northern New Jersey (Hudson, Bergen and Essex Counties), and Fairfield County in CT.
