Living in the Concourse Village / Fleetwood neighborhood of Bronx

Concourse Village / Fleetwood Apartments

Adjacent to Concourse in the South Bronx, is the area formally known as Fleetwood/Concourse Village.

This is a fairly residential neighborhood with a  strong mix of housing stock, including detached rowhouses and an abundance of low- and mid-rise apartment buildings.

You'll typically find Concourse Village apartments in one of these 6-story structures. In this neighborhood, you can find some of the borough's most affordable rents in large, pre-war NY apartments.

Life In Concourse Village / Fleetwood

Although this neighborhood doesn't have many attractions of its own, Manhattan is only a short train ride away. With the B & D trains traveling beneath the Grand Concourse (the western border of town), each station is accessible by foot to almost every block. But near 162nd Street, on the eastern border of Fleetwood sits the Metro-North's Melrose Station. From here, passengers can get to Midtown's Grand Central Terminal in under 20 minutes, which doesn't make the Bronx seem too far away.

Just to the north of the neighborhood, in nearby Claremont sits Claremont Park, one of the region's few greenspaces. This park, along with Crotona Park to the east, provide residents of Concourse Village apartments with a place to escape the dense urban landscape and take a breath of fresh air. But if you're down for a night out, you might want to think about heading down to the City. For a closer dose of nightly fun, the streets near Yankee Stadium in neighboring Concourse are lined with sports bars and restaurants just a few blocks west.

While you won't find everything here, you can find a few local businesses to suit your basic life. Near the southern end of Fleetwood is the Concourse Plaza Multiplex Cinema on E. 161st Street. And scattered nearby this facility are a handful of shops and quick restaurants. Though its urban-residential feel is almost overwhelming, Concourse Village/Fleetwood is an affordable and fairly accessible neighborhood.
