Living in the Pelham Gardens neighborhood of Bronx

Pelham Gardens Apartments

Pelham Gardens is a residential neighborhood in the eastern section of the Bronx. While many streets are lined with single-family homes and duplexes, others are occupied by attached and semi-detached rowhouses.

There are a handful of buildings in this neighborhood with the typical NY apartment rentals, so if you're in the market for the traditional pre-war tenement building, you very well might find one. Most Pelham Gardens apartments will end up being house rentals, but you will probably find a few availabilities in multifamily buildings.

Getting Around Pelham Gardens

At opposite corners of town sit Pelham Gardens' two subway stations. Both Pelham Parkway and Gun Hill Rd Stations serve the neighborhood with the number 5 train--though it's not a quick trip to Manhattan. However, the long commute can be much more comfortable if you choose to travel via the BxM10 express bus. This trip is not only quieter, but requires fewer stops along the way, providing passengers with a trip into Midtown Manhattan in under an hour.

Much of this neighborhood is abundant in trees--giving the homes and their driveways more of a suburban look. And although Pelham Gardens is almost entirely residential, there are a few local shops and restaurants scattered about town to satisfy the basics. However, on the eastern edge of town is the Shops at Gun Hill Road, with places like TGI Fridays and Chuck E Cheese for a more festive scene.

A Short Ride To Pelham Bay Park

Just a short drive down Pelham Parkway and you're in Pelham Bay Park--the largest park in New York City. That's right-- this massive greenspace is a natural beauty, housing a wildlife sanctuary and a great expanse of wilderness and shoreline. Lucky for auto-less residents, the Bx12 bus picks up passengers along Pelham Parkway and takes them through the Park, ending at Orchard Beach. Although this isn't your typical suburban neighborhood, it also seems to lack the distinct "urban" feel. Either way, the quiet streets and good transit make Pelham Gardens apartments something to check out.
