Woodlawn Apartments
Woodlawn is at the northern end of the Bronx, bordering Wakefield to the east (beyond the Bronx River), with Woodlawn Cemetery to the south, Westchester County to the north, and Van Cortlandt Park to the west.
This community is like a pocket with well-defined boundaries, creating an almost secluded section of the borough. With single-family homes among semi-detached rowhouses, there is a mix of suburban Westchester and the semi-urban Bronx. There are several low-rise apartment buildings in the neighborhood, with many available NY apartments for rent.
Life in Woodlawn
Although set in a charming, tree-filled setting, Woodlawn apartments do have one drawback: almost complete inaccessibility to a subway line. The 2 train is the closest one, which stops in the Wakefield section of the Bronx at the 233rd Street Station, which requires residents to cross one of the few pathways over the Bronx River. But for a quicker trip into Manhattan, commuters often take the Metro-North Railroad from the Woodlawn Station stop at the community's southeastern corner. From here, it is only a 25-30 minute trip into Midtown's Grand Central Terminal.
Woodlawn has Van Cortlandt Park as its western border, giving residents of Woodlawn apartments easy, walking access to one of the city's largest greenspaces. This 1,146-acre park offers it all: BBQ areas, bocce ball courts, baseball diamonds, handball courts, football fields, playgrounds, as well as hiking and horseback riding trails.
