Midwood Apartments
Midwood is a neighborhood in the central region of Brooklyn. When searching for reasonably-priced NY apartments, one should definitely search in this neighborhood as there is also plenty of community life.
Beginning as Midwout in the mid-17th century, this area was settled by the Dutch during the time when New York was still New Netherlands. In later years, the town became a part of the Flatbush village (before it consolidated into Brooklyn), and Midwood has since claimed back its old title, considering itself as its own neighborhood.
Housing options in the area vary drastically by city-block, and many Midwood apartments can be found in low- to mid-rise buildings, as well as the plentiful semi-detached rowhouses and single-family houses that line the side streets.
Living in Midwood
Midwood is no doubt, fairly central in Brooklyn, and residents of the neighborhood have quite a few public transportation options. In addition to the B, F, & Q lines, Midwood's avenues provide several of Brooklyn's crosstown bus services.
The neighborhood has very undefined borders, but many agree on a general area. Most will say that the area is bounded to the north by the Bay Ridge Branch frieght line tracks and Brooklyn College. The eastern and western borders are also somewhat disputed. The eastern edge is either Nostrand or Flatbush Avenues, while the western border is considered either Coney Island Avenue, McDonald Avenue, or Ocean Parkway.
There are several major shopping strips dotting the neighborhood, with Avenues L, M, P and Kings Highway as the district's largest. Residents of Midwood apartments will never be out of walking distance from some of Brooklyn's most authentic, ethnic restuarants. One notable establishment is Adelman's Kosher Delicatessen on Kings Highway, which has been serving up delicious, Jewish-style sandwiches for decades. Another popular local establishment is Di Fara Pizza, where the long line of customers can attest to the pizza's great taste and quality.
