Clinton / Hells Kitchen Apartments

Also known as Clinton and Midtown West, Hell's Kitchen may have become one of the hottest areas in town to find luxury NY apartments. But, the neighborhood still maintains enough of its basic character— a certain rawness, as well as a sense of independence--to be one of the great real communities in Manhattan.

Although many old tenements have been razed to make room for new constructions, there are still several Hells Kitchen apartments that have maintained their older style and feel. The neighborhood has welcomed many great new restaurants and interesting stores that cater to the more-monied residents—but there's still a lot of architectural and economic variety here.  

Rebranding Clinton / Hell's Kitchen 

The general region to find Hell's Kitchen apartments is between 42^nd and 59^th Streets, and from Eighth Avenue to the Hudson River. Over the past 20 years or so, developers, fearing negative associations with the name "Hell's Kitchen" (and make no mistake, the area definitely does have a colorful, often violent history), have attempted to re-tag the community. "Clinton", tying the area in with the neighborhood's large and popular DeWitt Clinton Park.

Clinton / Hell's Kitchen: Steps From Midtown

Much of Hell's Kitchen is within easy walking distance of the international headquarters of some of the world's biggest publishing, advertising, and media companies, including Time Warner, Hearst, NBC, Conde Nast, CBS,  FOX, The New York Times, Random House, and Simon and Schuster, making it an appealing "commuters" neighborhood.

Actors and others in show business gravitate to the Hell's Kitchen community as well, given its close proximity to Times Square and New York City's legendary Theater District, often referred to simply as Broadway. Of course, several big subway hubs (at 59^th, 42^nd, and 34^th Streets) ensure that Hell's Kitchen residents also have ready access to the rest of New York City.

Fine Dining in Hell's Kitchen

Going out for food and fun in Hell's Kitchen has its appeal, too. In addition to the famous "restaurant row" on 46^th Street, Hell's Kitchen has seen an explosion of first-rate, reasonably-priced restaurants and bars in recent years, especially along Ninth Avenue. Some of our favorites on this stretch include the cheese-centric Casellula, the excellent quick-bite spot Empanada Mama, the Italian Nizza, the family-friendly Eatery and Vnyl, the party-spot El Centro and, for superb dessert, the lovely Kyotofu. Of course, if you're looking for something fancier, the restaurants within the nearby Time Warner Center (A Voce Columbus, Masa, Per Se… and, by the way, a Whole Foods supermarket as well) as well as the famed, high-end dining palaces of Midtown (Le Bernardin, DB Bistro Moderne, BLT Steak, Hatsuhana and Anthos, to name just a few) are all right near by.
