East Harlem Apartments
If you're looking for East Harlem apartments, you'll have a huge variety of building types to investigate, from pre-war walkups and brownstones, to mid-rise post-war elevator buildings, and newly constructed luxury towers.
Also known as El Barrio, or Spanish Harlem (or, more recently, SpaHa), East Harlem is generally considered to be located between 98th Street and the Harlem River running from the south to the north, and from the East River to 5th Avenue moving from east to west. Commuters living in East Harlem apartments have is a quick and easy commute to midtown via the subway's 4 & 5 express trains, or the 6 local train.
Community of East Harlem
The mini-neighborhood of "Italian Harlem" is within these environs, with its beautiful old row houses and brownstones, and the legendary restaurant Rao's. Also close by, of course, is the upper regions of Central Park, which include the beautiful Harlem Meer, Lasker Rink and Pool, and one the city's great hidden gems, the Conservatory Garden near 103rd Street and Fifth Avenue.
And though the East Harlem community has seen plenty of hard times, especially in the 1960s through the 1980s, there has been a recent resurgence in El Barrio, as both East Harlem neighborhood newcomers and long-time East Harlem residents work to make pockets of this sprawling area both safe and comfortable.
Around East Harlem: Art & Culture
East Harlem has also seen a change in the quality of goods and services available to its residents in the past decade, including the opening of a several large-scale supermarkets and a weekly, seasonal Greenmarket near Mt. Sinai Hospital. The neighborhood also boasts of its presence on upper Museum Mile, with El Museo de Barrio (and its spectacular new $15 million renovation) specializing in Puerto Rican art, right next door the great Museum of the City of New York.
One of New York City's most inspirational street artists, James De La Vega ("Become Your Dream" is just one of his most common messages) displays the bulk of his work in the Spanish Harlem neighborhood. Few Manhattan neighborhoods hold a similar culture and energy that East Harlem so naturally displays. When looking for NY apartments, don't forget to explore the energy and life of this thriving neighborhood.

Where does a person like me live in NYC? My daughter was working when she was suppose to be in school and my landlord want's me to pay $10,000.00. My wages are being garnished by the IRS. I had to buy braces for my daughter. I make about 47,000.00 a year but only take home $22,000.00 after paying for retirement, medical and taxes. I have applied for affordable but they say my income is too high. I don't make enough money for me to have a life but I live so others to have life.
What do I have to live for? I am the 99% that is at Wall Street.
