Gracie Point, Manhattan

    Gracie Point Apartments

Finding an NY apartment in Gracie Point is almost like moving to a pretty little village. Yet this lovely sliver of the Upper East Side happens to be "right next door" to the one of the most bustling cities in the world! Several beautiful townhouses line the streets of this mini-neighborhood, hugging the East River between 84th Street and 96th Street, and east of York Avenue.

Gracie Point apartments provide a nice balance of architectural feel, with both historic townhouses on quiet, tree-lined streets, in addition to the contemporary luxury rental towers on York Avenue. The Gracie Point neighborhood gets its name from 200-year-old Archibald Gracie's Mansion, the formal residence of the Mayor of New York. Bloomberg, however, has chosen not to live in the glorious old manor, which is currently designated as a sort of eception hall for city functions.

Gracie Point: A Little Village Community

Gracie Mansion sits at the northern end of Gracie Point's community gathering ground, Carl Shurz Park, which features an excellent playground, several basket- and handball courts, plenty of sunny lawns and shady benches for picnicking and relaxing. Most spectacular is the grand esplanade along the East River, which is unsurprisingly popular with joggers, dog-walkers and amblers of all kinds.

Residents of Gracie Point apartments can enjoy the Asphalt Green community sports and cultural center, which houses, among other things, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, as well as a fully-equipped gymnastics school, a regulation-sized soccer field, and tons of well-run classes and fitness facilities for children and adults.

The revitalization of Carl Shurz Park and the redevelopment of Asphalt Green—transforming a one-time hulking neighborhood relic into a state-of-the-art community center—were both the result of strong advocacy and action by neighborhood groups. Gracie Point residents love their "little village", and it shows.
