If you're considering NoHo apartments, think lofts. In fact, NY apartments in the recently-dubbed neighborhood of NoHo (or, "North of Houston" Street, to differentiate itself from its neighbor sitting to the south of Houston Street, SoHo) are among the most in-demand for just that reason: they tend torwards lofts because of the area's history as an industrial center. These lofts are signified by their large sizes and open floor plans.

Squeezed between the culture-rich Greenwich Village and East Village, NoHo is notable for its world-class dining and shopping. Living in this neighborhood puts you right in the center, and within walking distance of SoHo, NoLita, Lower East Side, and Tribeca. With cobble stone streets and easy subway access, it's easy to understand why NoHo holds such appeal.

NoHo: Gothic Revival & Romanesque Architecture

NoHo apartments reside within a fairly tiny area, with boundaries of Houston Street to the south, Astor Place to the north, The Bowery on its eastern flank, and Broadway on the west. But although it's small in size, NoHo is home to many of the New York City's great educational and cultural institutions, such as the offices of the Village Voice, Joseph Papp's Public Theater, and The Cooper Union.

Cooper Union's beautiful old Great Hall was where Presidents Lincoln, Grant, Cleveland, Taft, Theodore Roosevelt, Wilson, Clinton and Obama have delivered addresses. The stunning new Academic Building at 41 Cooper Square, designed by Thom Mayne, is among the most highly-regarded and architecturally influential new buildings New York City. Other architectural gems in NoHo include Herzog and De Meuron's gorgeous residential building at Ian Schraeger's 40 Bond Street, and the curved-façade, six-story, high-tech marvel at 57 Bond Street on The Bowery.

Great Food in NoHo

If you want to eat in NoHo, you're in luck. Even with all of the outstanding restaurants in nearby neighborhoods, the community still has enough terrific options to keep residents of NoHo apartments close to home. Among our favorites in Noho: the funky Great Jones Café; the nearby, always-hopping B Bar and Grill; the trendy Chinatown Brasserie, with its excellent Dim Sum; the warm and welcoming, greenmarket-focused Five Points; and Daniel Boulud's rowdy DBGB Kitchen and Bar, a few doors down from the one-time home of the legendary punk club, CBGB.
