Nolita Apartments
Nolita apartments are somewhat difficult to come by, given the neighborhood's small dimensions and large desireablity. But if you can land an apartment in Nolita, look forward to stepping out of your front door and onto pretty, narrow, tree-lined streets filled with cute boutiques and trendy cafes, all just a few blocks away from the varied and bustling neighborhoods of the Lower East Side, Little Italy, Chinatown, the East Village, and Soho.
A Quaint Neighborhood of Old and New in Nolita
Nolita stands for North of Little Italy, and is generally regarded to include the area between Houston and Broome Streets on the north and south, and from Lafayette Street to the Bowery running west to east. Most of the Nolita apartment rentals are found within tenement-style buildings which once housed scores of Italian immigrants, now gut-renovated and transformed into luxury properties to reflect the new reality of the Nolita neighborhood.
In addition to the up-to-the-minute hip fashion and accessory stores that make Elizabeth, Mulberry and Mott Streets such fun places to browse (and buy), there's also the excellent Young Designers Market every weekend in the gymnasium near the historic St. Patrick's Old Cathedral (first built in 1815; rebuilt in 1868 after a fire), in which dozens of fresh and funky young talents set up shop to sell their creations, including jewelry, clothing, bags, and other crafts.
A Range of Restaurants Surround Nolita Apartments
Though the surrounding Nolita neighborhoods feature an outstanding array of great restaurants, there are plenty of excellent eating options here as well, including the Roman-esque trattoria Emporio; the always-packed Cuban place Café Habana (get the grilled corn drenched in hot sauce and sprinkled with cheese); the reasonably-priced Café Gitane (with great Moroccan specials); and for an unusual treat, there is Rice to Riches, the only rice-pudding parlor in town, and one of our favorite designs of any retail establishment in all of New York City.
