SoHo Apartments in Manhattan

    SoHo Apartments

SoHo apartments are among the most desirable living spaces in Manhattan, especially if you can find something in one of the architecturally-stunning cast-iron buildings that, along with the narrow cobblestone streets, give the neighborhood its unique, historic character.

Today, many SoHo apartments, whether for rent or for sale, retain that unique historic feel and have therefore become more expensive as the artists in their once-inexpensive loft spaces make room for residents attracted to both old and newly constructed NY apartments.

SoHo: A Place to Call Home

SoHo apartments can be found in the area bordered by West Broadway and Lafayette Street to the west and east respectively, and Houston and Canal Streets on the north and south. In the 1960's, artists began moving into the large, mostly abandoned factories and warehouses. The rest of New York City re-discovered the area beginning in the early 1980's, and art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants followed, transforming the neighborhood and inviting developers to take advantage of its popularity as a place to browse, shop, and, later, a wonderful place to call home. Soon buyers and renters flocked to claim Soho's preserved architectural landmarks, including the spacious lofts above the street fronts.

In recent years, SoHo rental apartments share the area with a world-class shopping destination, with hundreds of shops featuring coveted, cutting-edge designers of clothing, jewelry, home furnishings, linens, and lighting. A vibrant street life attracts locals and tourists alike to browse and buy at both familiar and unique high-end stores, from Prada, Chanel, Tumi, to Kid Robot, Moss, Alessi, Bathing Ape, and Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. Street vendors hawk their handmade wares, artists set their stands up and down West Broadway to ply their paintings, and the people-watching, especially on the weekends, is some of the best in town.

    Leisure & Activities Around SoHo

As far as food, the SoHo neighborhood is packed with enticing options-- everything from a fresh-squeezed juice drink, an exotic snack, or a three-course haute cuisine.  Dedicated chocoholics will be in heaven at MarieBelle on Broome Street, for an amazing assortment of chocolates up front and thick Euro-style hot chocolate at the Cacao Bar in the back. There's so much to choose from: the trendy (comfort food with a twist at Delicatessen), the old-school (a burger and a beer at the classic Fanelli's), the late-night (Blue Ribbon Sushi, often packed at 2:00 a.m., and serving some of the best raw fish in town), the established excellence at the likes of Mercer Kitchen, Balthazar, Raoul's and Aquagrill.

Historic townhouses, modern apartments, condos, lofts, and walk-ups--SoHo rentals and real estate have become sought-after residences and are among the most desirable habitats in the city.
