Far Rockaway
Far Rockaway is the easternmost neighborhood of Rockaway Peninsula. This region of Queens is bounded to the east by Nassau County and is bordered to the west by Beach 32nd Street (and Edgemere).
Single-family homes are very common in this neighborhood, but several low- and mid-rise apartment buildings exist throughout the area. Although many sections of Far Rockaway hold a very suburban feel, there are plenty of NY apartments available in this beachfront section of Queens.
Living in Far Rockaway
With the suburban atmosphere comes the suburban lifestyle and accomodations. There are few commercial strips around Far Rockaway, and most residents feel it's necessary to travel beyond the boundaries for entertainment and various nightlife.
The A train subway makes an elevated appearance down the Rockaway Peninsula, servicing Far Rockaway at the Mott Avenue Station (the A train's terminus). Also acting as a terminus for the Far Rockaway Branch of the Long Island Railroad, residents of Far Rockaway apartments have easy access eastward through Nassau and Suffolk Counties. If a transfer on the LIRR is necessary, a quick change in Jamaica can bring you to several other lines (although express trains skip Jamaica during peak hours). Even if you plan to commute to Manhattan by vehicle, expect around an hour for travel time.
