South Jamaica Apartments in Queens

    South Jamaica Apartments

South Jamaica is a residential Queens community situated south of downtown Jamaica. To the east is St. Albans, to the west is South Ozone Park and the Van Wyck Expressway, and directly to the south is the JFK International Airport.

This neighborhood is also known colloquially as "Southside" or, rather, "Southside Jamaica Queens". Most of the housing stock consists of one to two story, single-family houses, although these are mixed in with several low-rise apartment buildings and a few housing projects.

    Life in South Jamaica

Residents of South Jamaica apartments have access to the nearby Baisley Pond Park, a 110-acre recreational wonderland (with a 30 acre pond), complete with BBQ areas, baseball fields, dog runs, cricket fields, running tracks, handball courts, tennis courts, soccer fields, and playgrounds. This greenspace was created as a result of 18th century farmers damning three nearby streams to power their grain mill.

Residents of South Jamaica are not very close to public trains, however, are in close proximity to both the Belt Parkway and the Van Wyck Expressway. But if you don't own a car, you might want to consider taking the QM21 express bus to Midtown Manhattan from Linden & Sutphin Boulevards (approximately a 40 minute trip). Bordering South Jamaica to the south is JFK International Airport, only a quick jump on a local bus and you've arrived at the airport terminals.
